Trees Available
Located in the Churia Hills of Nepal's Nawalpur District, the Ruchang site sits in a transition zone from the Terai plains to the Himalayas, with peaks reaching 1,500 meters. Indigenous Magar, Gurung, and Chhetri communities are employed by Eden Reforestation Projects to plant and protect the forest. Local villagers manage the community forests, making decisions about their land. These subtropical forests are vital for the region's terraced agriculture - preventing erosion, improving soil fertility, and recharging water springs. Community members also gather fuel wood, fodder, and medicinal plants. Native species planted include Walnut (Okhar), Indian Bay leaf (Tejpat), and Pine (Khote salla) - providing food, medicine, and timber for generations. The project has created 849 workdays for local communities across 52 hectares of restored forest.
